What is Langar ?

LANGAR means free food to a human.
Inside any Gurudwara or by any sikh a Langer (free kitchen) served as a simple vegetarian food to all mankind all visitors without any difference of his/har cast, age, grace, race, rich, poor, religious, all sit in the same pangat (literally "row" or "line") to share and enjoy food together. Mostly Langer served full day of the year in many of Gurudwara.


Besides the langer in Gurudwaras, there are some open air improvised  langer  arrangements by Sikh community during some festivals an Gurupurabs.

Langar also teaches the etiquette of sitting and eating in a community, giving honour to a person sit near you and honour to you sit near him. 
All the preparation, the cooking,washing-up, serving by voluntary helpers (sewadaadaar)  male, female, children, families. 

From history- The principle of guru ka langar is so important that even when the Mughal Emperor Akbar wished to meet Guru Nanak Dev Ji he too had to first sit in the Pangat lined up with commoners and share simple food cooked by sikh who months before may have been from any indian's cast.





Who Can Have Food in LANGAR ?-- Any human being. Any male- female, rich-poor, young-child.
Need To Pay Anything ?-- No, thing to paid. Langar offered by any Gurudwara or any Sikh free of cost in regard of human service( Sewa).
Who Can Serve In Langar ?-- Any one can serve in langar sikh or nonsikh.
